FJ Cruiser Lo-Pro Rear Bumper Kit

From: $445.77

This is our new Lo-Pro rear bumper kit for the Toyota FJ Cruiser. This bumper is for those looking for a lighter weight and more cost effective way to add protection, recovery points and ground clearance to the rear of their FJ Cruiser. It also has an easily accessible hitch receiver that can be quickly removed for extra clearance gains when you need it. We know that so many FJ owners have saggy rear doors that no longer close properly due the weight of an oversized spare. So we also made this bumper available with our single swing out carrier, allowing you to move the weight of your spare tire off of the rear door and directly onto the frame instead. The base bumper only adds 39lbs to the vehicle (or 15lbs for the aluminum version!), meaning that you can run it with the factory suspension without any noticeable sag or change in performance. However, don't let the light weight fool you! This bumper has been designed with hard offroad hits and recoveries in mind and will take a serious beating without skipping a beat.

Description

Compared to the factory bumper center, this lo-pro bumper significantly increases ground clearance and departure angle by making the hitch receiver easily removable and creating a smooth surface that will easily slide over trail obstacles and steep ditch crossings. This substantially increases the offroad capability of your FJ Cruiser. It offers excellent protection from rocks, trees and animal strikes and has been kept to a weight of 47.5lbs (Or 23lbs for the aluminum version) through careful design work. This means that even with our steel bumper version, the total weight increase to your vehicle will be negligible at best. This minimizes added stress on your vehicle, maintains precious payload capacity, and allows you to keep your factory suspension if desired.

The entire shell of this bumper is also CNC-bent out of a single piece of  3/16″ P&O Steel. This greatly reduces the amount of welding and grinding required by you and makes for a cleaner finished product. If you are paying to have the bumper assembled by a welding shop, this significantly lowers the cost.

The heavy duty 9/16″ recovery points that are placed directly in line with the vehicle frame to eliminate any leveraging effects. These recovery points are formed by laser cut steel plates that pass through the bumper shell and then get welded to the in and outside of the bumper shell. These factors all combine to form recovery points that minimize stress on your FJ Cruiser’s frame and provide reliable recoveries of heavily loaded vehicles in the worst of offroad situations. Due to the lower profile of this bumper and factory frame crossmember located right behind it, the optional lights do not fit inside the bumper. Instead, the bumper comes equipped to mount the lights either on the swing out frame or underneath the bumper (as pictured). These holes place the lights underneath and well behind the face of the bumper, protecting the lights from harm. In addition, the slotted mounting brackets of our optional lights allow you to adjust the angle of the lights up and down and side to side to optimize the spread of the light beam.

The swing out tire carrier is built to accept a spare tire up to 37″ in diameter. The carrier also includes mounting brackets for a hilift jack and other recovery items. The carrier features heavy duty chromoly heim joint hinges, locking 2000lb toggle latch, T-handle spring pin, and a replaceable UHMW catch pad that provides secure, rattle free operation. The heim joints in conjunction with the toggle latch provide tons of adjustability, allowing for easy assembly and guaranteed alignment of the carrier latch. The single swing out add-on weighs 34lbs to the total bumper weight.

Don’t want to lose your factory parking sensor system? No problem. This bumper kit can be ordered with CNC-cut ports for each of the 2 factory parking sensors. Simply pop the sensors into this replacement bumper, route the factory harness through the internal ports, and plug it back into the vehicle. The factory wiring harness is easily removed from the stock bumper and transferred to the Coastal Offroad bumper with no modifications needed.

•DIY Weld-together kit – This bumper arrives as precision CNC-laser cut and bent pieces that you then weld together (detailed assembly instructions included)

•The entire shell of this bumper is made from a single piece of CNC-bent steel, which greatly reduces the amount of welding and grinding required by you and makes for a cleaner finished product

•Laser cut parts are slotted and tabbed for foolproof fitment. This further reduces the amount of assembly, welding, grinding time required by you and makes for a cleaner finished product. The Nitrogen laser cutting technology means no cutting edge oxidation or slag and thus easier and stronger welds

• Low profile design hugs the factory rear frame crossmember for the absolute maximum possible ground clearance without cutting the vehicle frame.

•Seamless Integration with the factory plastic bumper gives a very OEM feel, whether the rear hatch is open or closed

• Heavy duty 3/16″ plate steel construction for maximum offroad strength and durability

• Optional 1/4″ 5052 aluminum construction for a lightweight yet very durable overlanding setup (24.5lb weight savings over our steel version)

•Integrated light mounting locations provide protected mounting locations for LED pod lights for additional reverse lighting

• Optional bolt-on 2″ hitch receiver is easily accessible for removal and is recessed under the bumper for a clean look and further clearance gains (While the hitch is very well reinforced, we cannot rate it for on-road towing due to the DIY welding nature of this kit)

• Bolts directly to vehicle frame using 10 factory mounting points – no drilling required.

• Reinforced 9/16″ thick clevis mounts allow the use of 3/4″ D-Rings and pull directly off of the frame for confident recoveries of heavily loaded vehicles

• Optional Swing out tire carrier with license plate mount and hilift jack/recovery gear brackets

•Available with Factory Parking Sensor Cut outs

Bumper assembly

As for welding, with everything designed using CAD software and then CNC laser-cut to size, the pieces fit together perfectly and this makes for a very simple assembly process. All kits come with detailed instructions with plenty of clearly labelled diagrams that are made using cutting-edge CAD software. This bumper kit is well within the ability of a novice welder and many customers have purchased it as their very first welding project with great results! This is made possible by the clean parts fit-ups and thick material. These are two factors that make welding significantly easier. Welding is one of those skills that is easier to learn than you may think and once you can do it, you’ll wonder how you ever got by without it. Alternatively, many individuals buy the kits and then have a local welder assemble it for them. Even in this case, it typically ends up being less expensive than buying a pre-fabricated bumper – especially after considering the lower shipping costs of our kits vs. fully assembled bumpers.
