6th Gen Ford Bronco Extreme Clearance Rear Bumper

From: $721.65

This is our new extreme clearance DIY weld-together bumper kit for the 2021+ 6th Generation Ford Bronco. The installation gives you the optional of cutting out the bulky rear frame crossmember to achieve massive gains in ground clearance and departure angle. This bumper is particularly exciting for us as it's the only extreme clearance style rear bumper available for the Bronco. The center span of this bumper is made from a single piece of CNC-formed steel that has various slots and tabs cut into . This makes for easier and stronger fit-ups of the hitch receiver, mounting brackets and surrounding plate pieces. The idea behind this bumper is ultimate simplicity and very quick and easy welding! It features a very minimalist profile, recessed 2" receiver hitch, and by far the best departure angle on the market. This bumper allows you to forget about departure angle and substantially improves the offroad capability of your Ford Bronco. It offers excellent protection from trail obstacles and distracted drivers alike and has been kept to a weight of only 62lbs through careful design work.

Description

While the 6th gen Ford Bronco is one of the best offroad platforms going, the rear frame crossmember and hitch receiver pose some big limitations from the factory. At the rear of the vehicle, there is a bulky frame crossmember that hangs down well below the vehicle body and also protrudes several inches outwards. These factors give the Bronco a much worse departure angle than it should!

Our solution is the Ford Bronco Extreme Clearance Rear Bumper you see here. For this bumper, we give you the option of cutting out the low hanging frame crossmember. The crossmember can be left in place, allowing for use of the factory hitch and making it a modification-free bumper installation. No drilling, cutting or welding of the vehicle required. Or, for those looking to get the maximum ground clearance gains, the rear crossmember can be cut out. This process is broken down step by step with tons of detailed pictures, which takes all of the guesswork out of this otherwise daunting modification. Wether you cut your crossmember out or not, this bumper will give your Bronco a ton of extra ground clearance, departure angle and rear end protection. With no exaggeration, this bumper will transform the offroad capability of your Bronco.

This bumper still uses the factory bolt holes on the frame to mount to the vehicle, meaning that there is absolutely no guess-work required when mounting this bumper. The factory mounting points will locate the bumper perfectly on the vehicle. In total, the bumper mounts to the bottom, side and rear walls of your frame using a total of 10 bolts, making for an extremely strong and stiff bumper that will not flex or shift during hard impacts and recovery point pulls. While this many mounting points is totally overkill, this relieves stress from your Bronco’s frame by distributing those forces over such a large section of frame.

The profile of this bumper has been designed with maximum ground clearance and departure angles put first. The bumper profile is only 3.25″ tall underneath the rear hatch and the side wings hug tight to the Bronco body corners. In addition, the recessed hitch receiver and angled lower side wing faces will smoothly slide over obstacles and ensure you do not get hung up on the trail. These features make a very noticeable difference during deep ditch crossing and steep obstacle climbs where other aftermarket bumpers with bulky rear profiles and protruding hitch receivers will hang up and impede your progress on the trail. Simply put, this bumper allows you to forget about the departure angle of your Bronco!

Unlike many aftermarket bumpers that are more or less empty shells with minimal reinforcement, this bumper contains extensive internal ribbing and mounts directly to factory holes in the bottom and sides of the Bronco’s frame for unmatched strength and stiffness. While this bumper is extremely lightweight overall, we decided to go way overkill on the side wing support. This results in side wings that will take serious trail hits without flexing or deflecting into the vehicle body. We know that many Bronco owners want to run oversized tires, which often create interference and rubbing issues with the stock bumper. We have thought ahead and specifically designed these bumper side wings to clear 37″ tires at full compression with no trimming required. If you are running 40+” tires, the DIY format of this bumper means you can easily shorten the side wings during assembly to fit your exact tire clearance requirements.

The main section of this bumper is formed from a single piece of 3/16″ steel that we bend in house. This tubing has slots and tabs cut into all of its sides that then lock into all of the surrounding plates. This makes for foolproof fitment of each part as they will only fit together in one possible way. This greatly reduces the amount of welding and grinding time required by you and makes for a cleaner finished product. If you are paying to have the bumper assembled by a welding shop, this significantly lowers the cost.

We finished this bumper off with optional single and dual swing out carriers, a high clearance hitch receiver, LED pod lights to go on top of the bumper or swing outs (sorry, this bumper is way too low profile to fit lights inside of it!), and heavy duty 9/16″ recovery points that are placed directly in line with the Bronco frame to eliminate any leveraging effects. These recovery points are formed out of laser cut steel plates that pass through the CNC-cut slots in the rectangular tubing center and tie directly into the bumper’s main mounting points on the Bronco frame. The recovery points then get welded to the in and outside of the bumper center section. These factors all combine to form recovery points that minimize stress on your Ford Bronco frame and provide reliable recoveries of heavily loaded vehicles in the worst of offroad situations. What could make this bumper even better? The low profile design has resulted in a very reasonable weight of 62lbs! Considering that this bumper replaces your factory bumper, hitch receiver, rear frame crossmember, lower body corners, and a ton of other small parts and brackets, there is nearly zero weight increase to your Bronco. This reduces added stress on your vehicle, maintains precious payload capacity, and allows you to keep your existing coil springs if desired.

We know that the rear door on the Bronco has its weight limitations and can develop problems over time due the weight of an oversized spare. There are also numerous cases of Bronco’s bottoming out their spare tire against the ground, smashing the rear window and causing the rear door to bend. So we made this bumper available with our swing out carrier options, allowing you to move the weight of your spare tire and other gear off of the rear door and directly onto the frame instead. This completely isolates your spare tire from the body and rear door of your Bronco, eliminating this risk.

The swing out tire carrier comes in either a single or dual sided configuration and is built to accept a tire up to 37″ in diameter! Both carriers include mounting brackets for a hilift jack and other recovery items. The dual swing out includes the hilift mount as well as a lockable jerry can holder designed to fit two 20L NATO style jerry cans. These carriers feature heavy duty chromoly heim joint hinges, 2000lb toggle latches, T-handle spring pins, and a replaceable UHMW catch pad that provides secure, rattle free operation. The heim joints in conjunction with the toggle latch provide tons of adjustability, allowing for easy assembly and guaranteed alignment of the carrier latch. The single swing out add-on weighs 34lbs and the dual swing out add-on with gas can holder weighs 77lbs.

Don’t want to lose your factory parking sensor system? No problem. This bumper kit can be ordered with CNC-cut tabs for each of the 4 factory parking sensors. Simply pop the sensors into this replacement bumper, route the factory harness through the internal ports, and plug it back into the vehicle. The factory wiring harness is easily removed from the stock bumper and transferred to the Coastal Offroad bumper with no modifications needed.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT REAR PARKING SENSORS: If you order this bumper with our parking sensor and swing out options, your parking sensor cut outs will be offset to the driver side as shown. If you do not order the swing out options, the parking sensor cut outs will be centered and spaced at 19″ apart. This is the max spacing possible for the factory wiring. Please note that due to how low the factory tire carrier sits, the tire may block these center sensor cuts and modification may be required.

•DIY Weld-together kit – This bumper arrives as precision CNC-laser cut and bent pieces that you then weld together (detailed assembly instructions included)

•Cutting your Vehicle’s Frame is optional for the installation of this bumper kit. Avoid cutting for a totally modification-free bumper install. Or, for maximum ground clearance the rear frame crossmember can be cut out.

• Slim profile is engineered to provide maximum ground clearance and complement the factory body lines – the total height of the bumper is only 3.25″ underneath the FJ Cruiser’s rear hatch

• Heavy duty 3/16″ plate steel construction for maximum offroad strength and durability

• Integrated 2″ hitch receiver is recessed into the bumper shell for a clean look and further clearance gains (While the hitch is very well reinforced, we cannot rate it for on-road towing due to the DIY welding nature of this kit)

•Mounts directly to frame using 10 mounting points for unbeatable strength.

•Reinforced 9/16″ thick clevis mounts allow the use of 3/4″ D-Rings and pull directly off of the frame for confident recoveries of heavily loaded vehicles

•All kits ship as clean, bare metal that is ready to weld out of the box – the Nitrogen laser cutting technology means no cutting edge oxidation and thus easier and stronger welds

•Optional Single and Dual Swing out carriers with spare tire mount, hilift jack mount and locking dual NATO can holder (dual swing out only)
