Due to the construction of the front end of the Dodge Sprinter van, there are only four tiny M8 factory bolt holes per side available to mount an aftermarket bumper. While this is totally inadequate for an offroad winch bumper, some aftermarket bumpers mount to the Dodge Sprinter using only these mounting points! If a thick steel bumper is poorly mounted to the vehicle, no matter how strong the bumper is, it will simply fail at its mounting points should an impact or recovery pull occur. Instead, our engineers came up with intermediate mounting brackets that bolt to your Dodge Sprinter’s main structural frame rails approximately 8″ back from the end of the frame. Two 1/2″ bolts per side get run through the van’s frame rails and into these heavy duty brackets. This results in a total of 12 mounting points between this bumper and your Dodge sprinter van. While this is certainly overkill, it ensures that impact and winching forces are evenly distributed across your Dodge Sprinter’s frame. As far as we know, this is by far the most serious winch bumper mounting system available for the 2nd generation Dodge Sprinter van and will ensure that you can rely on this bumper when you need it most.
Despite the extra mounting points, this bumper still uses the factory M8 frame mounting points to attach it to the vehicle as well, meaning that there is absolutely no guess-work required when fitting the bumper to the vehicle. The factory mounting points will locate the bumper perfectly on the vehicle, and then the supplied bumper plates come pre-cut with the holes to locate the rest of the mounting holes needed. The four 1/2″ bolts tie the winch area of the bumper directly into the vehicle’s main frame rails, making for an extremely strong and stiff bumper that will not flex or shift under hard winching and recovery point pulls. Other notable features include the four integrated LED pod light mounts, optional grill and headlight protection hoops for increased wildlife protection, and optional front hitch receiver to allow a variety of recovery and gear carrying options.
The profile of this bumper has been designed with maximum ground clearance and approach angles put first. The bumper sits as high and tight to the front of the 2nd generation (2007-2013) Dodge Sprinter as possible, while the angled lower faces will smoothly slide over obstacles and ensure you do not get hung up on the trail. The side wings of this bumper wrap around to the front wheel wells and tie directly into the main frame mounting plates for true offroad protection. These side wings will take a serious hit without flexing or deflecting into the vehicle body. We know that most Sprinter owners want to run oversized tires and more aggressive wheel offsets. This can create interference issues with the stock front bumper. We have thought ahead and specifically designed these bumper side wings to easily clear 35″ tires.
We finished this bumper off with four integrated light buckets for surface mount LED pod lights (custom light cut outs available by request, such as a 20″ or 30″ light bar cut out), an integrated winch mount to accept all standard 8-12k lb winches with removable solenoids, and heavy duty 9/16″ recovery points that are placed directly in line with the Sprinter frame to eliminate any leveraging effects. These recovery points are formed by laser cut steel plates that pass through the bumper shell and tie directly into the Sprinter frame as part of the bumper’s main mounting brackets. The recovery points then get welded to the in and outside of the bumper shell. These factors all combine to form recovery points that minimize stress on your Sprinter frame and provide reliable recoveries of heavily loaded vehicles in the worst of offroad situations. The low profile design has resulted in very reasonable weights of 107lbs for the steel bumper and 55lbs for the aluminum version. Considering that this bumper replaces your factory bumper and associated components, the resulting weight increase to your Sprinter is surprisingly minimal. This reduces added stress on your vehicle, maintains precious payload capacity, and allows you to keep your factory suspension if desired.
