2nd Gen Chevrolet Tracker Low Profile Rear Bumper Kit

From: $633.27

This is a high clearance DIY weld-together rear bumper kit for the 1999-2005 Chevrolet Tracker. This bumper starts by mounting directly to the frame of your Tracker using a total of 8 mounting points. While this is certainly overkill, it ensures that impact and pulling forces are evenly distributed over a large section of your Tracker's frame. This translates into excellent protection from trail obstacles, trees and distracted drivers. While this bumper kit is available with our single and dual swing out options, we still wanted to maintain full usability of the door-mounted factory tire carrier. For this reason, the bumper is notched out in this location, giving you the ability to mount a tire up to 32" on the factory carrier (a tire larger than this is not recommended anyways due to limitations of the factory rear door and door hinges!). To take it one step further, we also incorporated a convenient stepping platform into the notch to provide easy access to your roof mounted accessories.

Description

The profile of this bumper has been designed with maximum ground clearance and departure angles put first. The bumper sits as high and tight to the rear of the Tracker as possible, while the angled lower faces will smoothly slide over obstacles and ensure you do not get hung up on the trail. The side wings of this bumper wrap around to the rear wheel wells and tie directly into the main frame mounting plates for true offroad protection. These side wings will take a serious hit without flexing or deflecting into the vehicle body. We know that many Tracker owners want to run oversized tires along with long arm suspension kits that extend the wheelbase of the vehicle. This moves the rear tires further rearwards and often creates interference issues with the stock bumper. We have thought ahead and specifically designed these bumper side wings to clear 33″ tires with a long arm suspension kit.

The main section of this bumper is CNC-bent out of a single piece of  3/16″ P&O Steel. This greatly reduces the amount of welding and grinding required by you and makes for a cleaner finished product. If you are paying to have the bumper assembled by a welding shop, this significantly lowers the cost.

We finished this bumper off with integrated light buckets for flush mount LED pod lights (custom light cut outs available by request), an integrated hitch receiver, and heavy duty 9/16″ recovery points that are placed directly in line with the Tracker frame to eliminate any leveraging effects. These recovery points are formed by laser cut steel plates that pass through the bumper shell and bolt directly to the Tracker frame as part of the bumper’s main mounting brackets. The recovery points then get welded to the in and outside of the bumper shell. These factors all combine to form recovery points that minimize stress on your Tracker’s frame and are essentially indestructible! What could make this bumper even better? The low profile design has resulted in very reasonable weights of 81lbs for the steel bumper and 40lbs for the aluminum version. Considering that this bumper replaces your factory hitch receiver, plastic bumper cover, and steel inner-bumper bar, the resulting weight increase to your Tracker is minimal.

The swing out carriers come in either a single or dual sided configuration and are built to accept a tire up to 37″ in diameter. Both carriers include mounting brackets for a hilift jack and other recovery items. The dual swing out includes the hilift mount as well as a lockable jerry can holder designed to fit two 20L NATO style jerry cans. These carriers feature heavy duty chromoly heim joint hinges, locking 2000lb toggle latches, T-handle spring pins, and a replaceable UHMW catch pad that provides secure, rattle free operation. The heim joints in conjunction with the toggle latch provide tons of adjustability, allowing for easy assembly and guaranteed alignment of the carrier latch. The single swing out add-on weighs 34lbs and the dual swing out add-on with gas can holder weighs 77lbs.

Bumper assembly

As for welding, with everything designed using CAD software and then CNC laser-cut to size, the pieces fit together perfectly and this makes for a very simple assembly process. All kits come with detailed instructions with plenty of clearly labelled diagrams that are made using cutting-edge CAD software. This bumper kit is well within the ability of a novice welder and many customers have purchased it as their very first welding project with great results! This is made possible by the clean parts fit-ups and thick material. These are two factors that make welding significantly easier. Welding is one of those skills that is easier to learn than you may think and once you can do it, you’ll wonder how you ever got by without it. Alternatively, many individuals buy the kits and then have a local welder assemble it for them. Even in this case, it typically ends up being less expensive than buying a pre-fabricated bumper – especially after considering the lower shipping costs of our kits vs. fully assembled bumpers.
