As far as ground clearance goes, don’t let the tall side wings fool you. This bumper has been designed to provide the absolute maximum departure angle and ground clearance without cutting into the body of your Sequoia. The rear profile of the bumper slopes inwards towards the vehicle and hugs the rear of the frame as tight as possible. This sloped profile combined with the recessed hitch receiver result in a rear end that easily slides over trail obstacles rather than hanging up on them and impeding your forward progress up the trail! Simply put, this bumper allows you to forget about departure angles and substantially improves the offroad capability of your Sequoia!
To maximize ground clearance and achieve a slim, tidy bumper profile, we decided to put the main center section of the bumper on top of the vehicle frame rather than behind it. If you are not a fan of the look of the two frame horn end caps located towards the bottom of the bumper, the provided instruction manual includes instructions for a more extreme frame cut. The more extreme cut minimizes the size of these frame end caps to gain a little extra ground clearance and a more pared-down look.
The end result is a bumper that features a bolt-on design (minor frame trimming required), an optional 2″ hitch receiver that is recessed into the bumper shell for maximum clearance and a clean appearance (many people don’t even notice its there!), and excellent protection from trail obstacles, trees and inattentive motorists. This bumper comes standard with 9/16″ D-ring shackle mounts and is available with surface mount LED pod lights and tabs to mount the lights on top of the bumper or swing outs. To protect the vulnerable rear corners of your Sequoia, this bumper is available with optional tubing side hoops that will help push your Sequoia away from trees and rock walls.
Unlike many aftermarket bumpers that are more or less empty shells with minimal reinforcement, this bumper contains extensive internal ribbing and mounts to the bottom, sides and top of the vehicle frame for unmatched strength and stiffness. The bumper side wings are tied directly into the vehicle frame using massive 3/8″ thick support brackets that are CNC-cut and bent in house for a customized fit. These bumper side wings can take serious offroad hits without flexing into the vehicle body. With this bumper, you’ll be able to tackle challenging trails with a new level of confidence knowing that the rear end of your Sequoia is now nearly invincible!
The ultra low-profile design of this bumper keeps the weight extremely reasonable at 127lbs in steel and 63lbs in aluminum while maintaining excellent strength. This is especially noteworthy when you consider the fact that the factory hitch receiver, frame crossmember and plastic rear bumper all get removed before installing the Coastal Offroad bumper. We were shocked to find these factory parts weigh a total of 109lbs! This means that even with our steel bumper version, the total weight increase to your vehicle is only 18lbs – negligible at best. This minimizes added stress on your vehicle, maintains precious payload capacity, and allows you to keep your factory suspension if desired.
The swing out tire carrier comes in either a single or dual sided configuration and is built to accept a tire up to 37″ in diameter. Both carriers include mounting brackets for a hilift jack and other recovery items. The dual swing out includes the hilift mount as well as a lockable jerry can holder designed to fit two 20L NATO style jerry cans. These carriers feature heavy duty chromoly heim joint hinges, massive 3/8″ steel surround brackets (thickest in the industry), 2000lb toggle latches, T-handle spring pins, and a replaceable UHMW catch pad that provides secure, rattle free operation. The heim joints in conjunction with the toggle latch provide tons of adjustability, allowing for easy assembly and guaranteed alignment of the carrier latch. The single swing out add-on weighs 34lbs and the dual swing out add-on with gas can holder weighs 77lbs.
